OMG! Shocked Sorry for the joke, Franc. That is aweful. It happened to us, too, in Connecticut. The worse part is losing sentimental valuables like photos and personal records. We laid out the damaged stuff out on the lawn ,and insurance didnt cover all of it. I was a kid, then.

genuine HMMWVs. Do you deal with those?

Before I opened the shop, I worked at fleet service shop and we serviced HMMWVs, well, mechanics did, I did fabrication and modifications to all kinds of trucks.
I have friends in the gaurd here and one is the sergent in charge of the garage there. It's a field artilary post, but they got like 30 HMMWV in various styles. They let me check em out and get dimensions. I go over there about once a month. He may be shipping out soon.

What is it that you build in your fancy-shmancy shop?

In the shop, I do production welding for a company that stamps parts to make hospital chairs for HON Corp. E-Z jig welding. Anybody got a hyperactive Chimpanzee for sale? At the other customer, on site, I fab square tube framework for automated systems such as robotic welders, I build the base frames. Some are as large as Francois' bus. They have to be right-on, so I do them there where the engineers are.

I did hire a guy today, 20 year old colledge kid. Now I dont have to work 2 whole shifts + weekends. I'll only have him until September, But it will help for now.
The shop is also my personal garage where I do endless repairs on the piece of crap S-10 blazer. Rolling Eyes

Sorry to hear about your flooding, it really sucks when that happens. A friend of mine had his basement flooded by a backed-up sewer line. Now THAT was nasty! He got down there just in time to see a nice collection of NFL memorabilia fall into the slop. My dad's place flooded on him about 10 years ago due to a fried sump-pump. Luckily for him he was out of town, and I ended up finding it when I went to check on his place. It was very hot and humid out, and all I had to get the water out was a carpet cleaning wet/dry vac. It worked, but it was amazing how much water was still in the walls and surrounding earth around the basement which wanted to get in! Once the pump was fixed, it ran for hours trying to catch up.

I got the Radar Trailer gig, I think. I told him to let me build 3 perfect ones and he wont be sorry,

he had issues with the previous builder
and i know what to watch for. There's alot of pieces,

Ya, that's 2x2 11 ga. tubing. I'll be up to my ears in it soon, Customer orders it and has it delivered here,..sweet! Cool
He asked if we could do one a day, but that's always subject to change with this guy. I need to borrow a camera after Haloween, to show a complete build.

It takes 2 sticks tubing and there is plenty left over, he always sends xtra for a margin. So, that's what we're up to, among other blessings.

Well, the shop I rented to build a truck in has now become a full time work place for me and my 2 helpers,
I'm really impressed with my self, as are alot of people in my life. I'm the only person in my family to take a plunge like this and if you knew where I came from and where I been, you understand. I Get alot of support and help, and it dosen't go unapreciated.
So... I went and got my first Home last month; Check it out:

Pretty plain, 1941, great neighbor hood.. 3-4 Brm one little bathroom, hard wood floors, the last people here had a bunch of animals that ruined the carpet and drywall. Been working on the place all month.

The utilities (central air, furnace, water heater,ect) are all modern, thank goodness. Rolling Eyes The windows are old style tho.

Now, I know this is what you want to see.........

The siding is shot from Ivy plants.

But wait , theres more..

The old folks next door, said this used to be a drapery shop years ago. Part time small biz, i guess, but this isnt a business zone.

It gets pretty toasty in there too.

But there aint there aint no room for E'Ville Iron , my Green Giant just fits in the door. Wall to wall.

Check this thing out, The deatail shop next door gave it to me::

1963 Pontiac Tempest ,,Slant 4

Look at the gear shifter.
It has a fuel issue and needs electronic ignition. but it's all there and turns over. But, check out the drive line;;;Waht's this remind you of?

That's the rear axle between the trans and torque converter. 'Vette inspired?

I never had anything like it, but i dont think i like it either.

Well, thanks for letting me boast, brag and show off.

Congrats on becomming a home owner! You'll spend more money on it than on a typical rental or apartment, but it's all worth it in the end. You'll get to deduct your interest paid on the mortgage, and possibly also what you pay in property taxes (at least in Wisconsin we can). If you got a good enough deal on it and make the right improvements, you may also end up getting back every penny you spend on the mortgage when you decide to sell. I'm working on that right now with a property we're trying to get (gotta sell the current home first though). If my numbers work out, every penny we spend on mortgage payments and on renovating the kitchen and bathroom will be returned to us when we sell in 5 years. I consider it either living in the house for free for 5 years or forced savings, since that's all equity we're building up.

If you do any work on that siding, be careful of asbestos. That looks like a composite type siding, and not metal from what I can see.

Nice property. Be careful with exterior renovations, it attracts attention of building inspector. Then you are going to need building permit. Evaluation of the property will go up, so will the property taxes. I was in similar situation like you now. My house was bungalow build 1945.I made cottage of it, now my taxes are double. If I would know, what I know now, I would build bigger garage. But life is like box of chocolates you never know what you going to get... Very Happy

Thanks Guys, yes, the siding on the garage is some kind of particle board. It crumbles like cardboard. I hope when I get to fix it up, the studs and guts are ok. The house and landscaping will come first, tho.
I only get to spend a couple days a week on it right now. But the paint is all done, and I'll probly just Carpet a couple rooms, The hard wood floors are real nice.

Yes, I'm still around, things got busy and getting on the forum was getting hard to do. I did get the radar trailers, and I'm so glad. That production welding is just not my thing. I'd rather build, and thats what I'm doing now.

I'm doing 4 trailers every six days. It was twice as long before I built this frame jig;

And one for the sides.

Havent done much to the house eccept pay on it.
I did however come across these two trucks:

'77 3/4 ton , Pretty rough, an organ donor at best, (axles, and mechanicals between.) Not the Transfer case I wanted, but its a start.

The body came off in 3 -4 hours. The bed was toughest part, actually.

But the price was right. It was free after an impound auction and no-one would buy it. Even for the 33+" SuperSwampers on 16.5" wagon wheels.
A good friend of mine who was a rollback driver for the tow company that has the police impound contract for Evansville, is now the shop foreman and I think we'll have several trucks like it to work from very soon.
It runs strong too!

Here's the other truck.

Also a 3/4 ton 4x4.1996 Cheyenne, IFS, air, 6.5 diesel. It's got some front end damage, but it's drivable. I dont know much about diesels, but I'll learn. 229K miles. Runs real good, got it for $2,000. My business needed something more modern than my '76 C-30. I feel good about it.
I came across these M/T Baha Radials for $150 on dodge rims.

I can run these rims on the '76, but only just. The seller is giving me GM rims so I can use them on the '96, then it will look like a 4x4.
Before, on 16.5 x 9's;

After;

Things are getting better at work where I can fart around with my toys and projects. I got great craftsmen from old employers now working for me, and I'm freed up some for that.
I'll be glad when the whether warms up. I may have to keep some bigger stuff at home-outside, probly.
