I was looking at the tremor forum the other day and i noticed that there is a few subjects on tools-which ones people used-which ones were better-which ones were crap, etc. Would it be worth while for thomas to have a section on tool forum or something where we could post comments on tools or the like? - Also what i noticed as well was there were a few tipsntricks on the other site as well which were quite handy to read up on -would that be of interest to anyone?

Yeah I think at least a sticky thread could be used for tool discussion.

Some have their own built in air source, others need an air supply. I haven't looked at themin too great of detail, but I assume 110 and 220 versions are available. Max cut thickness will vary from model to model, as does cutting speed.

I meant how does the plasma cutter that Nak NAk has.

Bronx,

I LOVE my plasma cutter. The machine is rated at 3/8" max cut for steel and a 1/2" sever drag cut. I really dont know the difference but I know that 3/8" is probably the thickess you want to go to get a clean cut. I use a line from my compressor and it is 220 volt but it can also run of 110 volt. Hyperherm only makes plasma cutter, mostly for industral use. I am happy with the product and would recomend it to anyone.
BTW- shop around, I got mine for $1100 locally.

220 Mig welder (~$780)
110/220v Hypertherm Plasma cutter (rent to own $100/month x 12 months)
Cheapie compound miter saw (~ $100)
4.5 inch angle grinder (~ $50)
Electric Drill and bits
socket set
8 jack stands
12-20 clamps of various sizes
2 BFH (big Fookin hammers)

Consumables
11lbs rolls of coated welding wire
Tips for welder and plasma cutter
10 inch cut off wheels
4.5 inch cut off wheels
4.5 inch grinding wheels

I'm pretty much done with the base body (just got to put in the floor in passenger area... but waiting to get the subfloor Line-x'ed first).

After getting this far... I'm convinced that this whole thing (the base body) can be built with a welder, a 4.5 inch angle grinder, a shit-load of cut-off wheels, some clamps and a BFH...!!!

Hello, our local COOP had an open house on the weekend. They had the Hypertherm plasma cutters so I got to try them! The rep said that the 380 is now replaced with the 30. The 30 is smaller (physical) and will cut better than the 380, it has an automatic detection of 110 or 220 volt. They have them on for $1399 CDN plus tax. Regular $1575 I then went to another supplier and they have the Miller Spectum 375 on for $1375 CDN plus taxes. According to the specs the Miller will cut thicker metals and is less money. Has anyone ever used the Miller 375?

Have you tried Ebay for it? I bought my miller 180 tig 1250 to my door with 6 hours of use and had priced it out locally for 2500. Just a thought...

just found out you can mig weld aluminum without a spool gun with a 210 canadian tire/ home depot lincoln electric welder! you can order a new cable liner that will take aluminum wire ( a bit thicker ) and the tip needs more play to deal with aluminum expansion. lincoln mentions using a wire a bit softer than the stuff at canadian tire, I think 4043 instead of 50something better melting for these little welders, and don't forget 100%argon.
